About Our Crowdfund
Please join us in supporting the Life and the Inevitable crowdfund, a student-run fundraiser, and discover the power of art to create social change. This exhibition, curated by Museum Studies M.A. candidate Keone Nakakura, features artwork of various mediums by a diverse set of artists - bringing the lived experiences of different ethnicities, nationalities, ages, and genders to the foreground. United under the themes of death and remembrance, the works displayed demonstrate how grief can be both intimately personal and universally human. Opening in the summer of 2026, Life and the Inevitable will be an immersive and transformative art experience for all who visit!

Life and the Inevitable will open in SFSU’s Fine Arts Gallery on August 8th, 2026 at 12pm. Your gift is essential to this project becoming a reality. While housed within the University, the Fine Arts Gallery is solely responsible for exhibition fundraising. All contributions to this crowdfund go to meeting the gallery’s fundraising goal of $2,500 – which covers costs related to exhibition installation, art shipping and transportation, operations fees, and compensation for participating artists.

Life and the Inevitable, as a student-curated and student-installed project, is a testament to the power of student creativity and ingenuity. Donations to the Fine Arts Gallery are transformative, enabling the gallery to continue as a hands-on, teaching tool for emerging art professionals and as a free exhibition space open to the general public.
For this year’s Gator Giving Day, we ask that the SFSU community come together in support of this valued art space and student project by donating to our campaign!
Donations and Benefits
All proceeds support exhibition installation, operations and facilities maintenance, art shipping and transportation, artist and curator compensation, free gallery entry, and exhibition programming. Exhibition programming furthers public engagement with the art via guided tours, artist talks, community workshops and more!
All of our generous donors are invited to a special preview in the Fine Arts Gallery before the public opening for an exclusive first look at Life and the Inevitable! As a thank you, we would like to offer donors with the following benefits based on their giving level:
- $5 One hand-made Life and the Inevitable button
- $25 One catalogue from a past Fine Arts Gallery exhibition (while supplies last!)
- $100 Invitation to a special tour of the Fine Arts Gallery led by either Director Sharon Bliss or Curator Kevin Chen
