SF State CREATE is a campus-wide hub connecting students across all majors to research, scholarship, and creative activities (RSCA)—from first exploration to professional presentation. We help students find opportunities, build skills, connect with faculty mentors, and share their work through workshops, mentoring, and community-building.
Why now: SF State is nationally recognized for social mobility, ranked 8th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report (2024). Undergraduate research and creative activities are high impact practices that have been shown in increase student retention and graduation rates, improve career and graduate school outcomes, and even increase longer term quality of life. Many SF State students are first-generation, Pell-eligible, and balancing work and family responsibilities—so unpaid research experiences can be out of reach.
Your gift to the SF State CREATE Fund makes RSCA participation possible by providing:
-
Student travel grants to present at conferences and share their work beyond campus
-
Small grants for materials and supplies needed for research and creative projects
-
Student stipends so students can conduct RSCA without having to choose between learning and earning
These supports are not extras—they are access. And they work: a large multi-institution study found undergraduate researchers were twice as likely to graduate in 4 years and more than 10x as likely to graduate in 6 years, with equity gaps shrinking dramatically (Haeger et al., 2024).
Thank you for your support! #gatorgivingday
